Hey Guys my surgery is set for August 18th, I'll be having double jaw surgery due to my 12mm underbite. I also have a cross bite as well so my surgeron will be moving my lower jaw to the left/right, I'm not sure which one yet. I'll find out everything when I go in for my pre-op on August 10th. I'm super excited about my surgery and can't wait to look "normal"!

Here are a few before pictures I took, my under bite is disgusting to me but after looking at other before/after pictures helped me build the confidence to post these!

Normal side view, (I've learned to hide my underbite by pushing my top lip over my bottom when I'm resting...):

Hey Kelly. I hated my underbite so much and found ways to try and hide it when I was resting too. You'll be so pleased with your results once you've recovered from your surgery. The thing that made me almost cry a couple of hours after surgery was running my tongue around the inside of my teeth in my mouth and them finally being in the right place. It felt incredible. And now six weeks post op I'm feeling so good about myself inspite of still having swelling. I went back to work this week and for the firt time in my life I wasn't thinking about my profile while I was sat there. I didn't sit with my hands in front of my face and when I smiled I knew I looked normal. It's been a long journey and it's not over yet as I've still got my braces on for a while but it's been so worth it.

I'm sure you're excited about surgery. I've given everyone on here the same advice and that is to stay positive and not not expect immediate results. The first couple of weeks aren't easy but they'll be long forgotten when you can see your new smile!

All the best and keep us updated on progress! :-)

    Hey Rachel, thank you :)
I can almost exactly relate to you with hiding my underbite, constantly!!! Even when I'm out eating in public i try to hold my hand around my mouth, almost always esp. if I look around and see someone staring at me. I automatically think they are looking at my underbite :/ its not fun living with an underbite, and its hard to get people who have a normal bite to understand just excactly what it feels like physically and emotionally :/.

I have a question for you, you said you managed to "hide" your underbite too? Since I push my top lip over my bottom when I'm resting, will this automatically go away after surgery? I don't want to continue to do it after surgery because that might look funny. I can't help but do it now, without even thinking about it!

    Again thank you!!!

The confidence i have gained from having the surgery is surreal!

@jawbreaker911: Thank You! Yes, I am very very excited for my surgery! It took alot to get an actual surgery date, I got denied by an old insurance company so I had to wait until the policy was over with them, and then I had to see a TMJ specialist so he could refer me to the oral surgeon. It was such a mess! Once I got the OK from my ortho that I was ready, I then got my pre op date along with my surgery date! I also go in for my surgical hooks on Aug. 11th! I'll be updating as much as possible. Good luck with your surgery as well!

Hey Kelly! Good luck! I had the exact same problem! A class III underbite, and my chin extended out quite a bit. The way I tried to hide it was to stick my tongue between my top and bottom teeth! My lips stuck out a bit, but it was better than looking dumb in my opinion. I felt the exact same way. I would go out in public and I could tell that people were looking at my rediculous profile and I was so self concious! I had my surgery on the 8th, so I'm still quite swollen, but I can already tell the difference. My profile is nice and straight. It's a long healing process, but it's worth a lifetime of normalcy. Most people take advantage of the fact that they can smile without having to worry about how it looks. Every self confidence book and womens magazine in the world claim that a smile is the greatest tool a person has. When you dont have one, it's a problem that nobody fully understands but people like you and I. The best of luck to you! It's definitely worth it in the long run.

The first time I actually bit into an apple I was 17 years old, 3 months post-op, and it was delicious.
