    Hi everyone,
I haven't posted in awhile because I am still pre-braces and also 'cause I have been really anxious now about the whole process!!! I feel like I just need to talk to a surgeon and my orthodontist still wants me to wait, but I want the surgeon's opinion before I do this whole process. I've been wearing a dental splint 24/7 now for a few months and it's helped as far as minimizing tmj pain and my bite seems a little better to me, but I am not sure how long I need to wear this before braces. I go back to the ortho this Fri after not seeing him for 6 weeks and I am nervous he will tell me I need to wear it another month or two or three. I just want to get this started already! But after reading everyones posts I am so terrified of surgery, even though I know the benefits far outweigh the cons...I just feel like I need answers and still haven't even had a consult from an os. My insurance only has a small list that are in network and my ortho wants to work with docs in my list, but based on info I've found on the internet, I don't really want to work with any of the oral surgeons that are in my plan except for 1, who my ortho doesn't know. Should I just go ahead and make a consult anyway before waiting for the ortho's ok? Sorry for the rant, I am just feeling so anxious and all the ortho says is to wait and see, but I want to know all the details about what exactly I need to do surgically before getting braces for the next two years. I know I need to do this whole process because I hate my smile and when I eat my cheeks and jaws are sore, but I am so scared that part of me wants to just deal with it for the rest of my life without fixing it... uuugh.
    Thanks for listening everyone =/

Well a splint is need to widen your upper jaw. I can share with you my braces treatment of you don't mind the long repeating story I had been posting for quite a while =X I am super nervous cause my jaw surgery begins in 2 weeks time provided my blood test shows good results. You should read up those blog of those patients it really gives you the idea of the whole process and stop you from having those haunting imaginations.

Thanks-actually my splint is completely different-it's not to widen my jaw, just to create an even bite when I bite down-it looks like an invisilign appliance, but much thicker. This is to heal my jaw joints before getting braces and doing the whole surgical process. I am just a worrier-I've read so many stories and blogs, but am so freaked out by it all still! Thank you for commenting! I look forward to hearing about your surgery

oic you got a special splint. For me reading up those blogs really gives me the whole idea of the process instead of imagining how horrible it would be. Well those surgical discomfort is real discomfort tough. Look on the bright side. You endure those discomfort of 1 year plus of braces and splint, 3 months of healing from the jaw surgery you will be able to see a nice outcome 6 months after the jaw surgery. By the time the braces should be done and all you need is a retainer to keep your teeth straight =)Always think of the nice result. =) No pain all gain cheer up=)
