    Hi everyone!
I'm new here and the first thing I want to say is THANK YOU to everyone, especially Brandon. I've been reading these forums for a few weeks and your posts have helped me alot.
I'm 17 days post op and everything is going good. I had my top jaw widened to fix a crossbite, and had it brought forward and down to fix my
slight underbite and give a bit of tooth show. I also had all 4 wisdom teeth taken out.

Anyway, my left eye is extremely dry ever since surgery. At times it gets so dry, I can't even hold it open. My mom gave me Systane Ultra eye drops but it's only temperary relief. To top it all off, when I cry (recovery can be tough :P), my left eye doesn't cry or become wet at all.
My surgeon said he's never heard of this happening and doesn't know what could cause it, but he didn't seem to think it was anything serious. Im getting more and more frustrated because it's causing alot of discomfort and aggravation. I probably should have gone to the eye doc by now but for some reason I haven't made it over there yet haha. I'm hoping I'll be able to get myself over there sometime in the next week.
So has anyone else experienced this or heard of this happening?

    Thanks!

Hi, I have never heard of that either, maybe you happened to get some type of eye infection or clog in your tear duct. I have a question, when they widen your palate, what do they put there? Is there a bone graft? I'm curious, I have a narrow palate and had a "Roof Spreader" before (the retainer with they key you turn every week). Just curious, they less they have to do to me, they better.

Hey! Thanks for the reply. Maybe my tear duct IS clogged, thanks for that suggestion because I didn't think of that!

To be honest I don't know exactly what's holding my jaw in it's new widened position. I guess it's titanium plates? When they xrayed a week after surgery, I was able to see the plates and screws that are keeping my jaw attached my skull but I didn't look long enough to see exactly where they were and all that. I remember my mom asking the surgeon how everything is being held together and he told us about the titanium plates- nothing about a bone graft. Although I did get a bone graft in my cheeks next to my nose and upper lip to make everything look even and normal.
    Sorry I'm not much help!

Did the palate expander work well for you? I had it for a few weeks at the beginning of the year and it did nothing for me. They said the reason it didn't help was because I was too old (16) and my suture was fusing together, so the expander was unable to widen it.
