    Hi there everyone :)

I just wanted to come vent, chat, whatever...I'm 1 week and 6 days away from (as I call it) "The Great Jaw-Breakage!"
I'm really anxious to just be done with this already! I'm sure those of you who've already been through this can understand. I've known that I've needed the surgery for almost 2 years, have had it actually scheduled since October, and I can't believe it's actually going to happen!
I currently have a slight underbite, open bite and bilateral crossbite...so much fun...
Before braces, my teeth (molars, anyway) sorta lined up, but my teeth were all crooked and leaning in/out in order to line up. Now with my teeth all straight, the upper and lower molars don't come close to touching...so it's been really difficult the past 6 months or so trying to chew.
The procedure I'm having is called a three-piece maxilla...my surgeon will be cutting (I prefer "cutting" to "breaking" LOL) my upper jaw (aka maxilla) into three separate pieces in order to move each section where it should be.
I'll be taking about 4 weeks off of work...hopefully this will allow plenty of time for the swelling to come down, allowing me to talk a bit more normally and not scare everyone, and for me to be back to at least a soft diet, instead of all liquids.

I'm gonna try to get my hubby to take some before, during and after pics...so I'll post 'em for your viewing pleasure! I will certainly keep you all posted...keep me and my jaw in your thoughts and prayers :D

I had upper jaw surgery 2/3/10...well on my way to recovery, a great smile and finally being able to chew normally!

I wish you all the best! I totally understand being nervous. I was like a wreck before mine and I just had a minor operation..

Best of luck! Im sure it will go great and be more then worth it in the end!

    Hi Lucrezia,

Yep, we totally understand where you're coming from, and it will be over before you know it!

That's great you will be able to get 4 weeks off of work, and that should be plenty of time, considering you're only having upper jaw surgery.

If you have any other questions in the meantime, just let us know.

Good luck and keep us updated...

I'm Brandon, the creator of JawSurgeryBlog.com. I personally had upper and lower jaw surgery on October 30, 2007. Thankfully, everything went beautifully, so I'm trying to make sure everyone else's surgery goes smoothly as well!
