    Hey all.

Right now, only 6 days in, and I'm starting to get really, really fed up with the liquid diet. The worst thing is I know I have many weeks, possibly months, of this liquid diet ahead of me. It genuinely hurts to swallow because it pulls the stitches. I have been trying out loads of fruit juices, smoothies, yoghurts, milkshakes, some soup and even some very pureed potato last night but I'm barely getting 500 calories a day and feel so hungry all the time.

The worst thing is of course, that it's christmas in 5 days. No christmas dinner for me :( Argh. Can anyone else that's had a similar surgery give me some info on when they were able to say, get pasta in to their mouths? I would happily swallow pasta whole, but my mouth is elastic banded shut right now.

i know exactly how you feel i was exactly the same as you 6 days post op....and sadly i am exactly the same ,banded tight shut and just reached 4 weeks today.i have managed to vary my diet quiet a lot ,and have been blended curries to mash and cheese sauce.even a sweet and sour.
the desire to eat more doesnt go away but as time goes on you do find more interesting ways to satisfy your hunger

I've so far had homemade soup, mashed potato with gravy, yogurts etc

Christmas is a time where i eat lots so really not looking forward to it and the smells of food make me sooooo hungry, when my family eat i have to go away

I had my upperjaw surgery 4 weeks ago. And I ate my first 'real' meal (mashed potatoes with salmon) after 4 days, it was really just to swollow. I thought i wouldnt be able to eat this fast, i was ready to have a liquid diet for couple of weeks. But i guess it healed and felt pretty good. But idk what type of surgery u had but it sounds like u had both jaws done? My cousin did that aswell and she couldnt eat for about 2 months..
I feel with you guys, i really do. Merry Christmas..

I had my surgery 7 days ago and my doctor has already given me the ok to eat soft foods. He told me just to loosen the bands when i eat and clean. I wish I could start eating but I have little cuts on the side of my mouth that prevent me from opening my mouth wide enough to do this. I really haven't been hungry on the liquid diet. I think my medicine is preventing me from getting hungry.

I had a sore throat also but you need to make sure you drink water. If nothing else drink water so you don't get dehydrated because that will ensue all kinds of problems.

I was eating pasta about 10 days post op, wasn't really chewing it. Started chewing things like pasta 4 weeks post op. Had my first pizza 5 weeks post op.

Various types of broth are divine to me at the moment. They have little nutritional value, but, man does not live on bread alone or something. Helps.

Eat mashed potatoe (might have to play with the consistency of it depending how well you can swallow), cheese, baked beans or spaghetti in tomato sauce and mix it all up together. It's definitely something special to eat in the early stages.
