Hose.A.Jaw,,,, I'll be sure to tell the OS when I see her on the 3rd,, she said that the surgery went perfect and she couldn't have asked for better results, I do know that before they knocked ,e out the squirted a nasal spray that was absolutely horrible but it was to allow the nose to relax before they inserted the tube. They inserted the tube after I was out but didn't take it out til I was awake and I felt like I was drowning lol.. Anyway I hope it's what you said and is just inflamed but either way as of right now it's helping me not to crave food because I can't smell it so right now I'm taking advantage of it, I just hope it gets better,, thanks for all your inputs I'll post pictures and updates as it changes

Preach152: PS, I had the opposite problem: enhanced sense of smell. This was due to upper jaw surgery (as you mentioned). There is an organ in the roof of your mouth called the vomeronasal organ, also known as the Jacobson's organ (auxiliary smell organ/system). Apparently, mine is connected to my brain. It isn't for most people, but mine definitely is. It freaked me out at first, so I researched everything about the smell systems. Mine was temporary, and I believe yours will be too. Sometimes anesthesia could cause what your are experiencing and the opposite.

The vomeronasal organ is something left over from evolution. It's primary purpose is to detect pheromones, scent markers, and things that would cause food poisoning. I had a lot of fun with it while it lasted (could smell what my cat smelled, etc.)

Detailed explanation, may or may not help (I am a scientist, this is written in a scientific manner with references):

    Experiments/observations made w/smell:

I know this seems "out there," but many people have experienced this. I was one of the fortunate/unfortunate.

Thank you for your service! My brother is in the Marines, served 2 tours in Iraq. I would have done it myself, but was not brave enough =(

Also, the vomeronasal organ in its current form is best used to detect other humans. I thought about hunting other humans early on, but realized that it would be in the best interest of society if I didn't! I just used it to find my wife in the house.
