Hello everyone,
I just had lower jaw surgery on January 5th 2011 to correct an under bite that I had. I have had braces for the past 3 years to get my jaw in position for the surgeon to make the correction.
The day of surgery I was obviously pretty nervous, but I took a relaxant pill in the morning to help calm me down a little bit. I had to wait about 2 hours before I was called to go in the OR. Once in there, I got an IV set up. I ended up talking to the surgeon for about 10 minutes before we got started just so I could ask any last minute questions which made me feel better. After that they started the anesthesia and the next minute I was out.
I woke up about 2 hours later in the recovery room, not feeling too bad just a little disoriented and numb on on my lips and chin. The surgeon had told my parents that the operation went great and that made me feel a whole lot better.
I had to spend a night in the hospital which was pretty uncomfortable, the bed I had was too short lol. I wasn't really in a lot of pain but I still couldn't sleep that night.
On January 6th I was okay to go home, so my parents came to pick me up. That day was pretty rough for me, I had a lot of swelling, more so on the left side of my face. Also that's when the pain stared to kick in.
My next 2 nights were pretty rough, I was really swollen and the pain got worse but thankfully I had some good pain meds to keep it down.
As for nourishment, I have been having a lot of soup as well as protein shakes to keep me going. It sucks but I'm gonna have to get used to it for the next month or so.
It's 4 days after my surgery now and I'm starting to feel better, swelling has gone down quite a bit, but I'm still having some pain but that's too be expected.
Anyhow that's about it for now, going to be a long recovery but in the end it will be totally worth it.
