Wow, Mike, what a profile difference!

You appear to be healing and getting rid of your swelling quickly too, congrats!

I'm Brandon, the creator of JawSurgeryBlog.com. I personally had upper and lower jaw surgery on October 30, 2007. Thankfully, everything went beautifully, so I'm trying to make sure everyone else's surgery goes smoothly as well!

Thanks Brandon for resizing the pics. The swelling is proceeding very good at this point.

Now I just broke an elastic and since they didn't give me any when I left the hospital I have to go back in tonight. AH the fun.

    Hey Mike -
I was reading in one of your previous post that your surgery took around 12 hours...it seem like most of these surgerys take about 2-8 hours..or did I mis-read your post?

    What say you?

Because I was having top bottom and chin done, I was already close the the 8 hours mark already. The surgeon got a little fussy because of the alignment of the top jaw and since I had little to no bleeding the surgeon kept being fussy about it so the surgery end up a little over 11 /12 hours.

Apparently if the surgeon knew how unpleasant a person I was going to be in the recovery thanks to all the anteshia she probably would have kept it around the 8 to 9 hour mark. Fornately I don't remember being in the recovery room, but from what my family and the nurse tell me there I was not a model citizien and I was doing whatever it took to get all the tubes out of me so I could get my butt home.

Well, the results are fabulous! I am the same age as you and I worry about the whole surgery/recovery part! But, you are my hero! Are you glad you did this (in hind site)? I would be very interested to see how your recovery continues. I have to have Lefort 1 and BSSO..

    Thanks for the post back!

Hindsight is always 20/20 and yes I should have had the surgery 20 years ago. But until recently I was never worried about the jaw issues, only when it started causing severe ear pain did I start to think about having the surgery.

As my surgeon said to me the day of the surgery, if I had it done 20 years the procedure would have been a lot different, she bascially said, 20 years ago it was caveman technology (hammer and chisels, etc). Today while still the most advanced surgery on the planet it is at least close to it. And as a result the results probably would have been a lot different.

The recovery to this point is proceeding nicely. Every day the swelling is going down, and more and more of my face is getting some kind of feeling back.

ONE WORD of ADVICE to all the GUYS on here. DON'T SHAVE (even though your face feels numb)for a couple of weeks. I had my first follow-up with the surgeon on Friday, (and as you can see in the pics from Wednesday) I needed to shave. I felt every hair being plucked out of my face x100000 its normal. I was pretty much in tears when I finished.

one other update, the swelling of the lips is to a point where the lips are very close to being closed. I plan on doing some more pics on Thurdsay, that will be 2 weeks post op and I will post them.

    HI Mike!
I was wondering about the shaving part.. it seems like it wouldn't hurt, but I will heed your wisdom..at what day were you able to shave again? Thanks for the update! Keep me posted on your progress! I hope your recovery continues to on without a hitch!

    Regards,
    Brent
