My Before and After (Pic + Xray) 3 weeks

I had upper and lower jaw surgery as well as a genioplasty on February 3rd for condylar hypoplasia and a 4mm overbite. My right side had grown longer than my left so not only did my jaw have an asymmetric appearance, none of my teeth touched on my right side when I bit down. The ten days of being wired shut with a splint were absolutely horrible but as soon as those came out everything has been smooth sailing since. I still have a small amount of residual swelling in my lower cheeks and chin but it is almost all gone. I also have numbness on the lower left of my chin and lip as well all of my teeth are completely numb. I am so glad I had the surgery done, I can already feel a huge difference in my bite and the by product of improved aesthetics is nice too :) I have about another 3 to 6 months of braces, thankfully most everything lined up perfectly for surgery so my total time wearing braces should only be about 18 months.

The top row for both sets are my before and the bottom row is my 3 weeks after.

Your results look great. Did you have joint problems?

Yes I did my left joint ached and occasionally would click when I chewed because I was biting down so hard in an attempt to make my right teeth touch.

Wow, your results are amazing, and it seems that your surgeon was especially gifted - those cuts he made are textbook perfect.

Thank you Cmonster and streo, I have found that my eyes do look much happier now even with a relaxed face. It's amazing what better symmetry does. My surgeon is amazing she has had so many fantastic results and as someone who does a half dozen to a dozen of these surgeries every week I can understand why.

I think the best part is today when I was eating a piece of pita bread I could feel on both sides my teeth cutting fulling through the bread. It's been 4 to 5 years since I have been able to do that. :)

Congrats! You look really gorgeous. One question - was it weird getting used to a new face and how have your friends and co-workers responded to the change?

Wow, my current jaw condition is very similar to yours before surgery. I have an overbite, and had a crossbite(the crossbite is corrected). My jaw does not line up, due to growing with the crossbite, and my teeth do not touch on the right side, making it very uncomfortable to chew. My lower jaw is pretty far back, and I lack a chin. It makes my profile look really unbalanced, and I've always been teased for it. I've had braces for about six months, and although my crossbite has been corrected, my overbite has gotten worse, and my face is still very asymetrical. My ortho has not mentioned surgery, but my situation is almost identical to yours...any advice? :(
