Hi just checking in to see if anyone wants to update their nerve situation. Im 4 months post op now and still have no feeling on the left or right side of my chin. Not sure what the deal is here. I've been to like 3 different surgeons to get other opinions and they said it COULD be normal. COULD--means that it still might come back and if it does than its normal but if it doesn't then its not normal. Kind of a bullshit answer from supposedly experts--i mean anyone can say that. Worst thing is... i'm not getting used to it at all..still a crapy feeling. I also can't talk properly--i don't know if thats because of the nerves or my surgeon screwed something else up.

Still have no feeling in my lower lip or chin and I'm 4.5 months post-op. But my IAN was transected during surgery. I may be having microneural repair on the injured nerve next month to hopefully increase the chances of regaining feeling.

Did it get transected on both left and right sides? if not, is the side that it wasnt transected still numb?

I was told that only the left side was transected, but both sides of my bottom lip and chin are still numb.

I am starting to worry that the surgeon's just say that the feeling will eventually come back, when they know it never will. Has anyone here actually regained ALL of their feeling after jaw surgery? I have read several blogs of people who are 1-3 years post op, and 100% of them were left with numbness somewhere. I'm almost 5 weeks post op for upper jaw and genio, and can't feel any of my upper teeth/gums, and have numbness in my cheeks, bottom lip, and chin. It's really discouraging to think this might be permanent or simply something I will have to get used to.

I'm 6 months post op and have regained 99.9% of my sensation. The only bit that is a tiny bit tingly is a 1cm section of my top gum and I only ever notice it if I prod it with my finger. I know it sounds weird but some patches of numbness you don't even notice. I can 100% live with things the way they are now and have got used to it so much I don't even think about it unless someone asks.
There's a possibility I don;t have 100% sensation in my cheeks but I really couldn't tell you. They feel like they're been like this all my life so it's what I've come to expect to feel normal.
All the best with the rest of your recovery. Unless there's a huge section of your face you can't feel that will affect its movement then there's nothing to worry about

that last thing you said "unless there's a huge section of your face you cant feel that will affect its movement"---thats what im worried about. I think thats what everyone is worried about who isn't getting feeling back. I honestly have a slight numbness in my upper lip but haven't even mentioned it to anyone cause it doesn't bother me at all. the chin and the lip is a huge section that i cannot feel that affects my speech, movement, and makes it look weird. I also have complete numbness in my upper gums and teeth--but havent really mentioned that at all either cause it doesn't affect my daily life.

talkalot24- Good luck with everything. I hope things work out for you.
