    Surgery hopefully (kinda) in the summer. Scared, excited - wish I could fast forward 24 months but then life is for living so I plan on making the most of it!!

    hi all, sorry for the late reply and thanks for your replies. I have an appointment at the dental hospital on the 26th, i think from then on i'll know if i need surgery or just braces. does anyone know the criteria i have to meet to get it paid for under the nhs as im a student and really wont be able to afford right now if i have to pay :(...wish me luck x

    Thanks aries. The criteria for surgery is based on the measurements they take, any psychological issues related to your jaw problems and also whether they belive you'll go through with all of the treatment (some people wimp out when it comes to the point they need the sugery after months of braces!) but I've no idea what they actually are.

    I had my surgery in Exeter. I think our waiting lists are shorter than other larger cities (from comparing others on here).
    My overbite was 11mm but I don't know what the minimum criteria is. I know of one person on here who's overbite was 3mm and he was covered by NHS.

    Bsso for overbite on 21st December. Lower advanced 8mm upper impacted by 3mm and moved forward 2mm.

    ^^^ if overbite was only 3mm he mus thave had severely bad teeth... or how else did he get accepted

    hey, my underbite is 3mm and i got accepted on nhs although that could just be because im under 18. i had my first appointment in may last year and am due to get braces this june.
