I was really nervous before and it was way less painful than my wisdom teeth. I didn't even take pain meds the first 5 days out of the hospital because I couldnt fit the pills down my throat so the pain was not the problem. Saying that the problem for me was the swelling. You have to drink a ton of water but it takes like 2 hours just to finish one 8oz glass because youre so swollen and because youre drinking so slowly it makes you really full. also the mucus in my throat made it hard to drink anything thicker than water so I ended up not drinking anything but water for the first 5 days. But honestly that is the worst part of it all (which in my opinion, for the circumstances, is not that bad)! Good Luck!

i had lower jaw surgery 13 days ago and agree with the above post.very little pain.i used no pain killers in the hospital, was only in over night.did have some paracetamol when home but only at night as i didnt want to wake up in pain. The swelling was the worst part and makes you feel damn right rough, that will peak at about day 4/5 then things will get start to go down.over all the surgery was no where near as bad as i was expecting im just a little fed up of not eating now :-)

It's barely been four days since my surgery (upper jaw + wisdom teeth), and I can confidently say that it's been mostly painless. The most discomfort has been via headaches, and those have eased as the swelling starts to go down. It wouldn't surprise me if half of them are more due to caffeine withdrawal than the surgery :p actually the worst part right now is the blood/phlegm in my nose and the back of my throat, tastes awful.

all in all it's about what I thought it would be, ie not all that bad. I still look funny and can't talk very well, but I can already tell it'll be a massive improvement in both those depts once the swelling goes away.
