For anyone who lives in Ontario and has done this surgery. I have just started the process and I have my first appointment next week. I am wondering what is required to have the surgery covered by OHIP. I have an open bite almost all the way across my mouth and a cross bite. The surgery is more for the fact that its a pain to eat and talk with my bite shifting and being open, than for visual purposes. Thanks

My surgery was completely covered by OHIP because it was done in a hospital, so if yours will be done in-hospital then the surgery itself is covered. I still had to pay around $1200 for other fees though (like consultation fees, might have had anesthetic costs in there too).

Thanks a lot. some people have told me they don't get it covered, so I have been wondering why that would be. What exactly was your bite issue for the surgery. I have an open bite and a bit of a cross bite.

Hey, I had mine in Ontario, and OHIP did not cover mine because they do not consider it medical. I had to pay the surgeons fee and the orthodentist, but I do believe the over night stay in the hospital is covered by OHIP.

Heya, I live in Ontario as well and did not have the cost of my surgery covered by OHIP. The only thing it covered was the stay at the hospital, as SappyPrune mentioned.
