The other day I was feeling pretty crummy with all of my recovery woes so I decided to watch some funny videos on netflix to try and cheer myself up. The movies were funny like I hoped, but the laughing made me so uncomfortable! I can't really see the stitches in my mouth, so I'm not exactly sure where they are, but I think they may be pulling tight. It also feels weird around the bands pulling tight. Does anyone know what's going on or have similar experiences? It's like this surgery is meant to make you unhappy...literally!

I had extreme pain when I laughed or cried for the first 2 weeks or so. Now at 24 days post op I can do it a little but if I smile too long my upper lip starts hurting. They sewed your lip back on so laughing is not a fun experience for awhile.

I had a 2 piece LeFort 1 that widened my upper jaw 3-4mm, my upper jaw was shortened by 6mm to reduce my gummy smile, pushed back 3mm and tilted up in the back. My lower jaw was pushed back 3mm. Surgery was December 1, 2011

I have the same problem.. Im now 4 days post op, and sometimes I just really have to laugh, e.g. cuz of people saying stuff.. I cannot help myself cuz I laugh really easily, but it hurts like hell! And Im scared my stitches might go lose! Is that true? Is laughing bad for your stitches?

I had the same problems. It was really annoying but it only hurt alot when i laughed really hard, smiling was ok. I am 6 weeks post op now and it still hurts a lil but not like it did before. The only problem i have is that the part between my upperlip and my nose looks very stiff when i smile, but i hope the swelling of the scar goes down and makes it look more 'human'. I still look a little like a 'who' in the grinch..
Idk about the stitches but mine fell off when it was time for them to fell off :P

I know i thought the same about pulling the stitches to hard. My lips didnt look like my lips anymore, it was like they put botox in them bc of the stitches was so tight. But it looks look more and more like my lips now :)
