Hi,
This upcoming Monday with be the two week anniversary of my surgery and Tuesday is the appointment with my surgeon in which I will be taught how to take off and put on my elastics every once in a while. I have had upper and lower jaw done and am doing fabulous with minimal swelling and no bruising. I've been drinking "Myoplex" as nourishment and am getting more than excited to get back to a regular diet. I know this is not possible until about 5-6 weeks post-op however my question follows. When my elastics are off at home, after I've been taught to take them off, can I not feed myself food that does not need to be chewed? Some things I have in mind would be very small portions of ground beef or mashed potatoes. To me, it seems like there wouldn't be a problem at all with this as I'm not doing any jaw movement and as long as I can fit whatever it is I'm wishing to eat between the small gap while my mouth is open. I'm just weary of this as everyone preaches an all-liquid diet for the whole duration of the 5-6 weeks.
Thank you,
Andrew

Question About Eating

Two weeks after my surgery, I was able to take my splint out and "eat" mushy foods, nothing harder than scrambled eggs. Pretty much anything that can be swallowed or crushed with your tongue. I've been eating eggs, mashed potatoes, extremely soft pasta, jello, etc.
It really depends on what your doctor wants you to do. Everyone has a different post-op regime. I don't know how people go the 6 weeks on all liquid! I've been eating mushy foods for almost a month now and it's still not cutting it.

@ Andrew - congrats on your surgery. How far was your jaw moved & forward or back? Are you happy with your results, I am going to have bi surgery and really nervous about them moving my top jaw ( I have an
Overbite so largely lower moving forward).S

Thanks for the speedy replies, everyone!
Yeah, that's what I was thinking Diana. I mean I'm sure a variety of "mushy" foods will be A LOT better than an alternation between vanilla and chocolate protein drinks. Now for the childish countdown until Tuesday haha. And Sarah, I had an under bite that was decently large and I cant remember the exact measurements but I think it was somewhere around 4-6mm. I am extremely happy with the results so far and cannot wait until I've made a full recovery. If you wish, I could try and post some before and afters for you to enjoy. Thanks again the replies!Posted 1 year ago #
