Hahaha LOL you're right about the gif xD !! It was for my blog so I made it a little different and it was the only "picture" from my 4th week haha.
I only recently started taking pictures again which is why most of the pictures (leading up to one month post-op) are of different quality. I was sort of depressed for a while :D

    When is your surgery btw?

My problem is that I am currently on the orthodontic stage of my journey.

I had my braces put on in March 2011, around the same time I had a brief consultation with a surgeon about double jaw surgery. I am currently waiting for the orthodontist to tell me that my teeth are aligned, so i can meet up with my surgeon again and organize a specific time for surgery. I am hoping to get it done end of the year or as early as possible next year. My only concern is that it is already September and there has been no mention of surgery or any specific dates.

I cant believe how similar our facial features are before surgery so i am really glad to see that your surgery was such a success. I hope you are no longer depressed, because you definitely have no reason to be sad. I think you look amazing, did you primarily do this surgery for cosmetic or to actual fix your bite?

@bruCey Oh, man I really hate when they don't tell you a specific date! But don't worry, I never got a specific date either. I had braces for two years before my surgery and it was only 2-3 months before my surgery that I got my surgery date. I could have gotten the surgery earlier (which I wish I got), but at that time I was graduating high school and they thought it would be for my own good to push my date back.

I'd say it's 60/40. I mainly did it to correct my bite because I actually didn't really know I had an underbite to begin with--I just noticed how I couldn't eat properly and my speech was off too and also one crooked tooth. But I also did it for cosmetic because I later on became really insecure about my profile as my lower jaw just kept growing "longer" and people kept pointing it out (mostly my family).

You say we have similar features, are you perhaps also Asian? :)

As a matter of fact I am. I have a Vietnamese background so I'm not sure if it more common or anything but yea. The more I hear about your circumstances the more I can relate. I didn't realise I had a underbite or had a longer jaw then most till my orthodontist mentioned it and the possible need for surgery. I found my jaw grew out very suddenly when I had my growth spurt, that is when I started to notice eating and speaking/eating became a little bit uncomfortable but nothing major. Definitely something I could of lived with. A lot of mates say it is fine but my family do mention it a lot. Asians for ya. I am probably in the same boat with the fact that I'm looking to do it for more cosmetic reasons but I can see the benefits with my bite and speech which I notice is becoming increasingly awkward.

Showed some of your pics to my friends and they said you are a dead ringer for me face structure wise but with longer hair and prettier. So hopefully some similar results.

@bruCey I'm Vietnamese too and I'm the only one from my family with an underbite. I've read that Asians tend to have it more frequently?
To be honest I could have lived with it too, but I was sick and tired of not being able to enjoy food properly. (Lame reason, I know)
Like your friends, mine also told me that I looked fine, but it was my family who indirectly kept pushing me for the surgery. They just kept mentioning how pretty I used to be and how I could have been prettier if I didn't have my chin/jaw etc etc. My family is most likely the reason why I had such low self-esteem. I'm sure you're familiar with Asian aunties! :-S They don't have any brain-to-mouth filter.

Do you have a blog or anything? I'm very curious to see a picture of you! :-D I sincerely hope your surgery goes well! When you get to talk to your surgeon, I hope you guys talk about the different features of Caucasians and Asians. I did so with my surgeon and I felt very relieved after that. It was my biggest concern; like what if he didn't think about those factors. Other than that, I fully trusted my surgeons.

@Euphobia thanks and LOL yeah, I look a bit different :-D

    Great! you look younger now!

I'm having mine too..and am totally feeling the jitters even though I'm not EVEN there yet..lol.

Yeah..the insecurities with having an underbite. I feel you, I'm always conscious about my side profile and how flat my face look. No one really said anything about my profile. Well..not that directly. But yeah, I know I can look better too with the surgery.

Is your nose a concern when you do this? Coz I'm asian too and my nose is not that sharp and pointed..

Yeah, I look younger. At first I wasn't so happy about that, but I've gotten used to it :)

I was really concerned about my nose because I have the typical Asian flat nose. They say that the more you move your upper jaw forward, the wider it will become. At first I didn't think mine became wider, but now when I compare to my sister's nose (mine used to be slimmer) I see it's a bit wider now and also the nostrils too :/ Or at least it appears to be wider because my face has become smaller..

    I really hope it's just swelling !
