I'm on day 6, and I'm still having a lot of trouble sleeping. It's not that I'm too awake to sleep, it's finding the right position to sleep in. Laying on my side I find uncomfortable on my jaw, and laying on my back (which is the most difficult position for me to sleep in) I still have the discomfort with my jaw. I can't sleep with an ice pack either; just doesn't seem to work. I find myself lying in bed rustling through the whole night, not getting a decent length of sleep. It sucks...
    Anyone have any advice?

    Hey kyosti,

A few tips I found that helped me (finally!) get some rest:

    1)Afrin nasal spray...so I wasn't so stuffed up and could breathe...kinda important ;)
2)Sleep in a recliner chair, or propped up on many pillows to stay somewhat upright...helps with drainage and also keeps you from putting pressure on your head/jaws
3)Ice for about 30mins or so just before trying to drift off...helps to ease the discomfort enough to get to sleep...now all you gotta do is stay there, which #1/#2 should help with.

    Good luck and nighty-night!

I had upper jaw surgery 2/3/10...well on my way to recovery, a great smile and finally being able to chew normally!

I guess maybe I was trying to get too comfortable. Thanks for the tips, I shall try it tonight!

I agree with sleeping in a more upright position. I have an adjustable bed at home which really helped, but a recliner or pillows should do the trick.

I'm Brandon, the creator of JawSurgeryBlog.com. I personally had upper and lower jaw surgery on October 30, 2007. Thankfully, everything went beautifully, so I'm trying to make sure everyone else's surgery goes smoothly as well!

Yes! That helped so much better. I should have realized that would have been the best way since that's how they had me at the hospital. Had one of the best nights of sleep, with not a lot of discomfort. Thanks for the help!

Yeah. I know how you feel. I have been living our reclining couch for the last week. I miss my bed, but sleeping upright is the most comfortable way to sleep.

Well you can take your matress off our bed frame and lean it on your couch then you will be able to sleep at a upright position. I have a nice old couch in my room and I tried leaning my matress on it really works like those hospital beds xD You should try it. But since I haven been on my surgery yet I will definitely not sleep in a upright position yet =X

Well, to maintain the health there is require to take the enough rest. To work out whole day as fresh then there is require to take the rest as 7 to 9 hours daily otherwise it occurs the problem of to reduce the health or skinny.
