Hey I think this forum was a great idea, thanks Brandon for starting this!
I am on day 16 of upper jaw surgery recovery and noticed an occasional soft clicking sound sometimes when my tongue touches the roof of my mouth or when too much pressure is applied from walking downhill on concrete or steps. My surgeon encouraged walking and even other activities like running to increase blood flow and reduce swelling, but I couldn't even take two steps jogging a day ago without constant clicking so I stopped that immediately.
It sounds like the sound is coming from the inner side of where my left molars meet my gumline if that makes any sense?
I plan to contact my surgeon tomorrow but was just wondering if anyone had noticed anything similar? It wasn't mentioned in the post-op packet so I figured it wouldn't hurt to check with him. Actually the only activity he said not to do was contact supports, but running, cycling, and even weight lifting were fair game and even encouraged once I had the energy to perform those activities. He even made a comment that I could be out jogging 2-3 days after surgery, but probably wouldn't have the energy to do so. I am thinking this might have been a bit too optimistic?
I have been walking since day 3 and it appears to have definitely helped as my swelling / bruising has been virtually non-existent to most people since day 13 and was dramatically reduced even by day 5/6, but the clicking noise during more intense activities makes me think I should take it easy.
Has anyone experienced anything similar? It's not painful at all but I know the bone is healing (I have 4 titanium plates in my upper jaw) and wouldn't want to do anything to slow down or reverse the healing process.
Thanks!
