I was wondering if anyone knew if this is normal... I just had lower jaw surgery for a overbite and following surgery, I still notice there is a gap. It's not as big as before, but from comparing even yesterday and today, I think it might be slightly bigger gap. I had the surgery 4 days ago and I am super scared I might be doing something that is causing my teeth to not be lined up. It's the weekend so I won't be able to call my surgeon until Monday so really would like opinions before then. How do you know if you have done something? Better question, can you actually do something to cause he pins or screws to loosen or fall out? What are the signs if something like that did happen?

A second question, when can you start having milk products? How many days after is it allowed?

Most people's teeth particulatly the molars at the back, don't line up immediately after surgery. That is why they will use elastics to get everything perfect over the coming months so it's nothing to worry about and there is no need to call the surgeon. Your bones and muscules still think they are in the same position they always have been so it just takes a while for things to settle down and adjust

There's nothing you can do to make the pins or screws fall out but if they did move you would either get a lot of pain or an infection so you would know about it.

I had milk products (ice cream) from the first day post op so there's no reason why it's not allowed unless you've been told specifically not to have anything milky?

Hey Candy you should be due to see surgeon and / or ortho soon, most folks gets a check up around 1 week post op. Sure it's fine like Rachel said but sometimes having someone look and confirm that puts your mind at rest, believe me I've had a few extra visits to see surgeon to alleviate worries I've had.

Bsso for overbite on 21st December. Lower advanced 8mm upper impacted by 3mm and moved forward 2mm.
