My opperation was about 6 hours so i had a catheter put in whilst i was asleep and taken out the next day when i was able to get up and walk around. After my opperation they kept me in recovery for 24 hours just so there was always someone close to keep an eye on me.
The tube that was in my nose had bent it, so 2 days after they had to re opperate to straighten my nose again. I know you say the tubes worry you and am only saying this so you know the worst that can happen! As i was just unlucky. But it is even straighter than it was and can breethe better, so was probably a good thing!

hi crys,
the tubes were what i was the most freaked out about also. they had the ventilator in during the surgery but that was out before I woke up so i knew nothing of it. my surgery was 4 hours long and a catheter was in until the next day when i was awake enough to get up. i also had a tube that went in my nose to my stomach to pump my stomach out as well as give me my pills the night of surgery but that was no big deal and was out the next morning, hardly even noticed it was there. good luck!Posted 2 years ago # -
Hey Everyone,
So everything is set, and my surgery will be this coming Monday! I'm definitely starting to feel the nerves, and am pretty sure I'll have an official "freak out" on Sunday. I think I've even lost some weight this past week because the nerves are messing with my appetite.
Reading all the posts here have really helped me out, and I will post as soon as I am home and coherent.
Thanks for all the tips and words of encouragement!

Wow, that is great, good luck! Don't forget to take vaseline (petrolium jelly) for your lips that stuff is a life saver post surgery! I forgot to take in some decongestant ointment - this would have been great to help breath, just a little on a tissue! Drink lots to keep flushing, and Body shop sell a great ice pack which straps across your face - so wonderful.
I am nearly 2 and a half weeks post op and amazed at just how much I am recovering every day, the swelling is really going down and I am feeling so much better already - my face is looking great!
Good luck Crys

Don't use vaseline...that is actually drying! Use carmex or blistex!

Hey everyone,
Im just getting in from the hospital and am totally regretting this. The surgery lasted only 3.5 hours which was less than anticipated, but they had me stay a second night due to throwing up blood and all the pain.
The pain today isn't terrible. I would say Im at 6 on the pain scale. The hunger is starting to kick in and I do feel a lot better today, but I still haven't gotten to the point where I can say I'm happy with my decision.
Anybody have any advice on how to get through these first few days at home? Any words of encouragement would be great.
Thanks everyone.

SLEEP! I slept most of the first few days home and that helped quite a bit. Stay on top of your pain medicine and drink lots of fluids. I stayed 2 nights also for throwing up and also did when I got home until I discovered it was from that ensure and other sweet yucky drinks. Just drink ice cold 7 up (it will help with the drainage) and clear juices the first few days and chicken broth is nice too. If you are hungry and feel that you need some substance, thin down some yogurts that you like so you can drink them from a cup. My favorite is coffee yogurt with choc milk..but can't remember what day that sounded good to me. I just know I didn't drink any of those ensures after the first days of vomitting. I did use a protein powder that I like in milk, but it wasn't so sickening sweet!!

im in a lot of pain right now. also, my throat feels all sticky, like the fluids i have been drinking are sitting there. I did use the mouthwash, but i feel like im suffocating. i sleep off and on for 20 minutes here and there. I don't know what to use to suction out the stuff from my throat In the hospital i had a suction tool but its all different when you get home.

Hiya Crys
It is horrible at the begining! I felt suffocated as well. My nose was blocked and my mouth was so dry and swollen inside, i could barely drink through a straw to moisten my mouth. I was scared to fall asleep because i would have a panick attack and could'nt breathe as my mouth would dry out and could'nt swollow. I had a very bad pain in my bottom lip too when i tried to sip through a straw or have medicine through a seringe. So i would rather not have anything, and dreaded medicine and food times.
Back at home was better, I did'nt feel pressued to eat and drink. (The nurses practically forced me too)
As each day pass's you will get better and better. The 4 days is the worse. but promise it gets better from then on!
It is all very much worth it. I wrote everything down how i felt, its good to look back on to see what you have been through to get to where you want to be. And take photo's.(You probably already have)Posted 2 years ago #
