surgery or braces?

    Just so you will know where we are coming from, and I can get an answer for my question- My daughter started her period at nine, her feet have not grown since she was ten, she has not grown AT ALL since her 11th year. She has had the wrist Xray. She will be close to, or already 18 when she has the surgery. All doctors involved are comfortable with her having the surgery at this point.

    Age questions aside- I just wanted to know if anyone did the braces and tooth extraction as an adult and wished they had done the surgery? My daughter has already had braces twice, once at eight for two years, and again at eleven for two years. She is wearing them a third time in prep for surgery.

    Did anyone else have to decide between braces and tooth extraction and upper and lower jaw surgery?

    I was the exact same way. I knew for many years that surgery was an absolute must, but as I got older it started to become more noticeable. The more I visited the dentist, ortho, and some surgeons I became ashamed of my bite and was SO excited to get my surgery done!

    I have to agree with everyone else on this forum though, waiting a few more years would probably be the best bet. I know that I would not under go surgery again if I had to. Its a rough recovery process, but the results are SO worth it! Good luck!

    and since my underbite was such a large measurement, removing my teeth did not help... surgery was the only way to go. I'm not sure of your daughters case though.

    One very respected ortho said surgery is our best option, (dentist and dr also agree with surgery)the other also very respected says he can help her with out surgery- 2-3 years of braces and extracting 4 teeth. This is why I am curious if anyone else had to choose.
