Im having lower jaw surgery tomorrow friday 13th! Im very nervous but im trying to think positive and consider myself lucky as lots of people on here have double! Im hoping it'll be worth it in the end but im terrified i can't see any positives apart from time off work! Unfortunately my boss said i have to go back to work 5 days after? Like thats going to happen, i work with children there is no way im going to be able to shout at them lol, she has no idea how long ill be off. I know this sounds a silly thing to worry about but i seriously don't like being sick and I dont wanna get ill off anesthetic/meds, do you think my surgeon or someone can give me something to stop me being sick? Also im so worried by reading all the stories on here that its going to be absolutely terrible, anyone have a nice story where they recovered asap?

hey :)
i had my double jaw surgery + sinus operation and i was very well walking around the next day of my operation.. you can recover quickly.. you dont have to worry about it.. the only thing you have to make sure is that "DRINK LOT OF FLUIDS" you wont be eating so your body wont have enough strength.. drink lot of protein drinks and fruit juices to keep up the strenght and keep you going... and moreover you'l be on pain killers, so you wont know the pain.. its only the discomfort due to swelling which will bug you.. but that'l get well each day...
so all the best for your surgery... be strong ! :)
you'll be fine soon.. :)Posted 4 months ago # -
Thanks! Nice to know you was up the day after surgery as i cant stand being in bed all day! Yeah i will drink lots ive got protein shakes and milkshakes and orange juice and all sorts.
Thanks for the advice, i feel slightly calmer now :)

Hi Jadey. I can happily say that I was visitng friends by day five post op from my double jaw surgery. I wasn't sick at all post op and was up, showered, washed my hair and walking around the hospital 24 hours after my surgery (which lasted 9 hours in total so it was pretty major surgery). The only pain I had was a sore throat for about 24 hours post op so I wasn't exactly writhing in agony!
Are you in the UK? If you are signed off work sick your employer is breaking the law by asking you to return to work. And if they threaten to sack you if you don't return you can sue her for constructive dismissal. DO NOT go back to work before you're surgeon says you're ready. Day five was the worst for me in terms of my swelling and I was pretty uncomfortable but not in pain.
It's not much fun when you wake up but you'll be really drowsy so won't really be alert enough to worry about feeling rubbish. So long as you stay relaxed, keep positive and get up and about moving as soon as you can post op, you should have a good recovery.
The first couple of months are tougher psychoogically more than anything as you won't be able to see the final result of your surgery but once you can see you're new face you'll have no regrets I'm sure.
All the best tomorrow!Posted 4 months ago # -
your welcome.. :)
even i cant stand being in bed all day.. and my surgeon told me that , the sooner we start walking... the sooner we recover.. :)
people who get back to their normal routine recover faster than those who lay in bed for days.. ;)
1 more thing.. do avoid all the citric based juices for at least 2 weeks post op :)
be calm and be patient..you'll love the results.. :)Posted 4 months ago # -
Hey Rachel im so glad u wasnt sick i know it sounds completely stupid but i have a phobia of sickness and havent been sick in 11 years lol. Yes i am in the UK and i know my boss is a pain! Ive only been at this job 4 months or so and she is driving me round the bend! I know i am not going back to work unless i feel up to it, she can stick her job haha. I know its gunna be a tough ride but yeah it will be worth it. I just wish i could have the surgery right this second instead of waiting all night in anticipation, i know one night isnt long and ive had this planned for ages but its just came round so quickly and tonight is going to be horrible! Im glad you're recovering well and just hope i'll be round my friends at day 5 haha
Fatzi i shall start walking as soon as i possible can then! And thanks for that il make sure i wait to have my orange juice and i know hopefully all worth it in the end, hope you recovering okay too :)Posted 4 months ago # -
I had surgery 4 weeks ago, My surgeon gave me a medical certificate for 14 days, so ask your surgeon if you can get a medical certificate, because I was definately not ready by 5 days, and I was worried about bieng sick too, I get realllly emotional when I feel sick, and I mentioned this and they gave me something about 2 hours before surgery, and I ended up feeling fine after surgery, but another important thing is not to swallow any blood because your stomach doesn't handle it very well.
I freaked out about half an hour before surgery and started telling myslelf I didn't want to do it and considered walking out, but now that I'm 4 weeks out I'm glad I didn't, and realised that my freak out was all for nothing, and I was really bieng a bit ridiculous. so try not to do eat I did, stay calm and remind yourself, why your doing it and what you are looking forward to after surgery, that's how I manages to calm myself down.
I won't lie, the first few days are long and tiring, but it won't be as bad as you think, and once you get past 1 week it gets so much easier, things turn around from there. so just keep remembering that it's only temporary and that soon enough you will be as good as you were, even better acually.
Good Luck! remember to stay calm! You'll be fine :)Lower Jaw Advancement SurgeryPosted 4 months ago # -

I definately would have regretted it if I hadn't gone through with it. At 4 weeks I actually feel amazing, I still have a bit of swelling and healing to go, but I already feel like a new person, having only had my lower jaw done I think the recovery was a bit quicker and easier then some, hopefully you have the same experience, It's a big decision but you won't regret it :)
