Thanks jawbreaker911! That video does comfort me a little bit. I hope it will be better, but still 6 months IS a long time. My face looks slightly better now, I mean only the swelling, though.

shutmymouth, I am now 18 days post op and feel a little bit better now. The swelling has gone down a little, but I still look like a freak. On top of that, I have big front teeth so I feel like I've got an overjet or something. And the left side of my face is more swollen. How about you? Has the swelling gone away yet? I heard that if you wait and get used to your 'new' face, you will like it eventually. But I like my profile, though.

    Thanks for the support!

It took months for my swelling to completely go away. I took off of work for a month, and even when I went back my face still looked weird. I couldn't really make any facial expressions. I had upper and lower jaw surgery, and the swelling definitely stayed in the nose/cheek areas the longest.

If your prom is in May you should be almost back to normal by then. I am sure you look beter after surgery, MOST people do.

    Good luck!

Lucky you! I can't take off 'work', still in HS and doing my IB now, so I just can't stay home that long. :/ I'm still swollen, but I think I just have to live with that for a few more weeks. aaargh I hate the swelling, probably the worst part of the surgery.
    Thank you!

    Hi Maya,

I am Asian myself and I also had the same concerns you had. I'm new here and I'm contemplating surgery, but I'm not really sure either. Has the swelling gone down for you? I noticed that you had the surgery a few months ago. Do you feel you are satisfied with the outcome (functionality and look)? Thank you Maya, hope you are doing well!

I'm curious to see how you feel, as well. Please let us know how you're doing and if everything is going better for you.

    Hi,
It's been 5 months now and I really feel better. I still look different, most of my friends say I look normal, but those who haven't seen me during my "swollen times" say I look completely different. I still have some swelling left on my cheeks and my nose looks different...but I can live with that now, I just avoid taking photos...still liked my old self better, but yes, functionality is definitely better, but looks...maybe I just didn't get used to it yet, but to be honest, I don't like the way I look now..
If you're not sure about the surgery and you don't think it's necessary, I would do it..it's painful and the swelling lasts really long.

I've got similar issues with very puffy cheeks. It's not symmetrical swelling either so my nose is wonky and the nostrils are more raised on one side. I'm just over three months post op now and I'm going to give it until Christmas before I start worrying too much about it but it's not nice in the mean time. Especially when nobody else can see there's anything wrong!
I'm still getting used to a very different face in the mirror. There are some things I miss (my defined jawline) but other things are so great (my teeth meet together properly at the back, my lips are symmetrical and my bottom lip no longer pouts all the time). I' 95% sure it's been worth it but I'm still sure that I'm not seeing the final result just yet. Plus I won't be fully recovered until I've managed a steak!

That's something Ive been thinking about Rachel, the defined jawline which is what I have currently. My surgeon mentioned the Lefort 1 would allow me to keep that jawline, we ll see!

    @ maya
would you be able to post a picture of you now?
i'm asian, three months post op and the changes i saw in your photo look exactly like mine :(
i'm really upset about my nose change because 1. my surgeon never told me and 2. i had no problems with my looks before
i'd really appreciate it if you could post one of you now so i can see how your swelling went down in the nose :)
