I had surgery on February 3rd and I have been struggling with swelling. I had upper and lower jaw surgery as well as a genioplasty. I have a splint in and I am wired shut so tight I can't breathe through my mouth. Today the swelling has gotten so bad I can't get even water into my mouth. Also my saliva has gotten very thick and sticky such that I can't really swallow it. I have been wearing ice packs 24hrs a day, drinking at least 100oz of liquid, taking arnica and ibuprophen as well as going on 20min walks. I am incredibly hungry but I can't get water between the spaces of my teeth even with a syringe. Does anyone have suggestions?

Yes, call up your doctor and talk to him about the problem because eating is really important for recovery.

You would be at almost 4 days post op so your swelling should be close to peaking, so I would continue what your doing and if the swelling gets any worse I would definitely call the surgeon as not consuming enough liquids can slow down healing, and cause dehydration, which you need to be careful of after surgery.
