So I had my upper and lower jaw surgery last December 20th ( about 9 months ago)

I have always had asymmetrical swelling (The left side of my face has been more puffy since the beginning).

I’m starting to get worried/frustrated now though. The swelling the on the left side of my face is still here. My right side I would say is basically all gone, but the left side still looks a little puffy. No1 notices until I show them and then they can tell.

Anyone have any advice? Things to eat… exercises? Pills? Does ice do anything at this point? Sleeping upright?

I really just want to be done with this swelling!!!

    Thanks for the help!

"arnica gel on cheeks, take bromelian and quercetin. Take ibuprofen as well."

-Just got the above off of another forum, I have no idea if it will help or if it is just magical pills. I am 10 weeks after operation, July 19th of this year, and the swelling is freaking me out. I have been told 6 months you should be very close back to normal, and it will take a full YEAR to be completely normal. I wish the surgeon told me about the healing process. I'd like to break his jaw. Let me know if you find out anything that helps. I'll take it or do it too.

do you think it could be due to your facial muscles? perhaps if there was asymmetry in your face prior to the surgery, it caused your muscles to be used unevenly, and now the muscles are rearranged, and are more noticeable to you? my jaws are asymmetrical (no surgery), and i mainly chew on one side. perhaps once you develop your muscles a bit more, the symmetry will straighten out.

No there was no asymmetry prior to surgery. BUT as soon as I had the surgery the swelling on the right side of my face start to heal quick then the left.

and NO jawbreaker911. The swelling I have no is NOTHING like the first few weeks after surgery, but I can still notice a little bit on the left side of my face and its annoying me!!

I will look into arnica gel.

    Anything else lol?

Hi abcde - I'm 18 weeks and 1 day post op and I feel your pain. My right side is less swollen than my left, but both are still puffy. Very annoying. I think it's just a matter of waiting. That's what my doctors tell me anyway.
