hello, everyone. i know that one big thing that everyone want to know about jaw surgery is the cost. the prices i seen posted on this website range from 15,000 to 80,000. which is very high compare to the cost of my surgery. i have a class III underbite with a normal profile. the problems i have include speech, chewing, grinding on my teeth, popping of my jaw. i been on braces for 10 months now and it also is my second time. i wasn't happy with the result the first time 8 yrs ago. i am scheduled to have my upper jaw moved forward in november. the total cost for the procedure is $10,500- it include doctor fee, anesthesia, and one night at the hospital. my braces cost me $5,000. the procedure is done at Redlands community hospital in Southern California.

the surgeon told me the procedure can be done as an outpatient surgery at his office and i wont have to stay overnight, it would reduce the cost by 20%. but he advised me to do it at the hospital and stay overnight to be safe. I have no insurance, so i'm paying everything out of pocket.

Mine told me $6000 for 1 jaw, or $9000 for both jaws. I'm also class 3 underbite, and having upper jaw moved forward. But my braces cost me $7000 which is quite a bit.

My surgery will take place in Spain. I will know this month how much will be, but I couldn't get an estimation yet. I'm having upper and lower surgery and genioplasty. The surgeon forgot to mention before to get the braces that he also would make my chin! I guess it's because thy will cut my upper jaw in three pieces and will move it forward, so, they have to move forward the lower, which I guess it make me need a genioplasty to get more aesthetical results :(

I feel really blessed. My parents paid for my surgery and I was really worried about the cost of my surgery. My mom told that I shouldn't worry about the cost because their insurance covered almost all of the costs. My parents only had to pay 175 dollars and the insurance covered the rest. I would have felt so bad if I caused a financial burden on them.

My surgery would be 9 month to a year. Depending on how fast my teeth moves. I called my insurance yesterday and my surgery would be 100% covered. I am freaking happy. Anyway I live in Singapore. The cost here way cheaper than in State but since I am not Singaporean, am not entitled to any government subsidized. Who care now since insurance will pay for it. My surgeon said the operation type is: Mandible and Maxilla, Various, Lesions, Osteotomy including Segment Osteotomy with/without Grafting.

    Hi Drew,
The cost of this surgery was also one of my biggest concerns. I've had braces for a year and half, total cost will be $5800 when I have it all paid off...only $1600 to go! I had surgery last week and found out the bill was $60,000. I could have never done that on my my own and knew it ahead of time, so it took me months of legwork, but I got insurance just for this. I haven't had insurance since high school and I'm 32 now, so it was pretty frustrating trying to figure it out at first. I got a plan back in January, then, just waiting for the insurance process delayed the surgery by another few months, but it was worth it. I didn't think I could handle the monthly payment for the insurance plan even, but $200 a month for a while is a whole lot better than $60,000. My portion of the surgery cost was $960. Also, not to make matters seem worse, but the prescription medications add up quick too.
I don't know what your situation is, but maybe looking for an insurance plan that suits you (and doesn't have a pre-existing condition clause) could help.
I had Le Fort I and BSSO last week and I have to say if it was outpatient I would have lost my mind...its good your Dr is saying do it at the hospital.
I hope you find a way...it sucks to have to worry about the money side of this kind of thing. Good Luck

My double jaw surgery is about 18,000 euros plus 1,000 euros for the braces (not including the 90 euros I pay monthly for the adjustments. All together I think it will be close to $28,000! Thank God for good health insurance.
