Problem: correct a underbite class III, with crossbite
Problem #2: WHO SHOULD DO IT?!?!

Has anyone recently worked with Dr. Stuart Super? - please give feedbacks, hopefully even personal experiences.

Second: Dr. Harrison Chen - rave reviews on google! I actually only found one bad reivew, and in comparison to other doctors, it wasn't that bad, ....again, let me repeat....RAVE REVIEWS online...
Here's my concern...he's a "maxillofacial surgeon" - in my point of view, that means, he must have had, is qualified to take on jaw surgeries right?? Seems like a silly question but, most of the reviews are how great he is with wisdom tooth removal, extractions etc, cleft etc etc. ...I have yet to read a review on him regarding jaw surgery. This may be a red flag already, but I went to meet him, and the reviews where true....VERY VERY NICE bedside manners, side note: the office is beautiful adn clean, and they seem more in touch with modern technology...like they used a CT scan instead of the panoramic xrays etc etc...
So I'm sortof at a lost....I guess what I'm asking is, for one, any feedback about this doctor..second, are all maxillofacial surgeons creating equal lol.
LAST: I'M OOPEN TO ANNNYY SUGGESTIONS FOR GOOD DOCTORS WITHIN NEW YORK. THANKS!!

I don't understand all this review stuff. We don't do it where I come from... imo reviews aren't really a reliable source of information because it depends heavily on how many/which people review (ie; perhaps 97 patients were well satisfied, but only 3 people reviewed negatively online).

    Idk haha.

My surgeon was a maxillofacial person. Office was super up to date/high tech. Answered many questions on his past operations and showed me similar cases he had performed. He did an amazing job. He has ZERO internet presence... apart from the odd lecture at universities or posted reports/studies.

If you're doubting, you should ask about his experience and whether he has done similar cases to yours / how they came out.

I don't understand reviews and things either Coffeecups. Surely the only person qualified to review a surgeon is someone else in the medical profession? It's like tripadvisor but for surgeons. How do you know it's reliable?

My surgeon was a maxiofacial surgeon so yes, he'll be experienced in carrying out jaw surgery. She doens't have any internet presence either apart from a few articles she has written and some university lectures she has given.

All the best choosing a surgeon. I don't envy you having to make a choice. I just got told who I was going to have and trusted it was the right decision as that's the way it's done with the NHS

I too was surprised by the relatively low profile most surgeons have on the internet. There is precious little patient feedback for all but the most ridiculously prominent surgeons (Arnett, Gunson, maybe Wolford and a few others). As someone raised on Facebook and Myspace, the idea was somewhat foreign to me, but that is just the nature of--at least this--medical field.

The best way to tell if you are dealing with an excellent surgeon is to look at their curriculum vitae. Look at the schools they went to, publications and papers (if any), teaching positions they may have had, ect. Now, if you judge entirely off of their hard credentials, will you overlook many great surgeons? Yes. Is it possible that the surgeons with the best qualifications may treat you poorly or offer suboptimal treatment plans? Of course. We are, after all, dealing with other humans and not gods, but "better" clinicians are generally not considerably more expensive than their counterparts (again, excepting the "rockstar" surgeons), so if it is an option, then do consider their credentials.

Thankyou for the replies....there's def a point in what you guys said. I'm a nurse myself, and the trend these days is really transparency...like everything is rated, everything is accesible online...but on the flipside, how accurate is all that?? and very limited view....
I guess it comes down to personal relationship with your surgeon to be... and that gut feeling lol.
