I guess this topic comes up so many times...Insurance and coverage. I've been reading articles after articles about people's insurance not covering for jaw surgery. I've noticed that the older I get, the worst my condition is getting. I have an underbite that crosses. My teeth does not touch on the left side of my mouth so for all these years I've been chewing on my right side. My crossbite goes towards the right side. I've notice, the pain, discomfort that is coming from this now. Migrains, TMJ, major clicking and jaw cracking, ear ringing, now worst it is affecting my teeth...my gumline is receding on the left side as well as causing damage to the right side of my teeth. The more I ignore this problem year by year the worst the symptoms have become. I tell myself this will be something I have to live with but now the discomfort is getting worst and now I'm thinking this has to done.

I am now 34y/o many dentist that ive gone to have brought up surgery actually ALL have brought it up. Since I was young it was brought up. I have tricare prime/united concordia dental insurace. A military spouse living overseas in NZ. Does anyone have any experience with any of this insurance and jaw surgery? Or know of insurance that covers? And if this not covered, how much will something like this cost?

    Any answer would be helpful.

Hi. My husband and I working on insurance. Crossing fingers and toes. From what I read insurance supposed to cover it the surgery for functional purpose. Unless the policy mention excluding jaw surgery.

You are not alone. I have those discomfort you have. I am 32 years old. It getting worse 2 years ago. I can't yawn too big, can't open mouth too big as well. Anyway I have severe overbite. Last few month I had hard time to sleep and eats semi solid food for almost 2 weeks. Short story, I went to orthodontist and he said he can't handle my case as I need a surgery. Went to family doctor for maxillofacial expert recommendation. Note: I have to go to family doctor to get a referral letter in order to claim the bill to insurance.

My husband took me to his orthodontist and he refer me to he said the best maxillofacial in Singapore. Please don't ignore your problems. My dental surgeon (maxillofacial) give me injection both side on my jaw. Those mussels closer to back teeth were swollen. That why it hurts so bad when I eat or just open mouth. The injection supposed to lasted 3 month. Thank God I can eat and my jaw don't have any pain at all. However this is only short term solution.

Here is the long term. I have to put on braces for 2 years. Required to wear braces for 6-1 year before surgery (depending on how fast/slow my teeth moves) then surgery and back to braces. Since I am not Singaporean, both jaw would cost me SDG 12k (6k each).. ouch!

From what I read jaw surgery WONT be cover by dental insurance. Hope this helps you a little.
