I'm 4.5 months post op and i have trouble speaking still. My surgeon says its normal....like every other complication i have (don't believe him). Has anyone had trouble speaking this long after surgery? I also walk around with my teeth clenched all day. Its like my lower jaw wants to rotate up more but it cant because my bite occurs before it can rotate up (which is why i'm clenched all the time). I feel like that contributes to why i can't speak well. its difficult for me to get my lips to touch to pronunciate words (my lips do not touch at rest). Of course my surgeon is saying all of this is normal (including the fact that i'm 100% numb till and only 24 years old). Is he just feeding me crap? Honest opinions please. Also don't need anyone to say "see a second surgeon" ive already seen a few and they haven't had any answers.

Memberim also 4.5 months post op. As for speaking I'm also having trouble speaking clearly. I dont think its as worse as yours but for me it sounds like I'm talking like my mouth is full of marbles. My surgeon said that I just need to practice talking and I do see improvements in my speech everyday. As for numbness, I'm 23 years old, my bottom lip feels 70% numb. and my gums for both my upper and lower jaw is numb. I also have small numbness on top of my lip and a little on my nose.
So yeah, I dont think hes feeding you complete crap. I guess in time everything will heal eventuallyPosted 5 months ago # -

ModeratorWhen I started this process my ortho told me that I would need speech therapy at some point after surgery. I'm only 13 post op so I can't give you my experience. Good luck though.
I had a 2 piece LeFort 1 that widened my upper jaw 3-4mm, my upper jaw was shortened by 6mm to reduce my gummy smile, pushed back 3mm and tilted up in the back. My lower jaw was pushed back 3mm. Surgery was December 1, 2011
