Hey Brandon and everybody. I have not been here for some time, cause last monday I woke up with a lot more swelling (on the side of the face that is already most swollen). I got penicillin. It was a post - op infection. It was very scary, but it is much better now.
I have a few things on my mind. First of all, I have felt a little depressed the last few days, because it sometimes feels like the process of swelling going down, has stopped ( I think you can experience some weird thoughts through this period).

I think I have had very similar operation as you Brandon, both upper and lower jaw. I have looked (repeatedly) on your videos, and I am still very swollen. Especially at the lower sides of the chin. The thing that maybe is a bit different with me, is that they also moved the upper jaw a little to the side, and cut off some gum.

I have two issues though. The first is that inside my upper lip, right under my nose, it is quite painful when i touch it. I have tried to look under the lip, but its not easy because of a lot of braces and pain.I hope it is caused by stiches or something.
The other thing is that on one side of the face, from under the eye, half my nose, and down to the underlip, it feels like I have som kind of implate. I do not think I have that. It feels like a thin plate has been put under my skin. Its very uncomfortable. When I touch it, it is very hard.. Does anyone have had any similarity to this?? I will ask the doctor the next time I go. Anyway, people say I look great, so that is nice, even if I am not quite there myself yet. But i am gonna focus on being postive.

I must say it is amazing what you do for us "jaw - people" on this blog Brandon. Spending so much time answering us. I am very greatful.
I got very happy today when I read the last topics. I can relate a lot to swelling and self - esteem issues. I mean, just putting my hair up in a ponytale ( I used to hide a little, under my hair) out in public is going to be great.

One last thing. On thursday I am taking my outsidebraces off. I have the ordinary ones on the inside, so it is very full in there right now. I cannot wait. Those braces has operation hooks on them, and they cause me so much soreness inside the lips. It will be fantastic to get rid off them hooks. i will give a report after that.

    Thanx again. Anette :)

    Hey Anette,

I'm sorry to hear about the infection, but I'm glad you caught it in time and took care of it before it got too serious.

I had the same soreness on the upper gum below the nose too, because that little "bubble" right there was very swollen, but it returned to normal over the next few weeks and wasn't sore anymore.

I'm not sure about the implate feeling, since I didn't experience that, but that's definitely something to ask your surgeon about to make sure.

And yes, we always think we look worse than we actually do, especially after a surgery like this, but other people are usually right in saying how much better we look. I'm sure you will start to agree as more of the discomfort subsides and your new face emerges from the last bits of swelling.

Congrats on getting the outside braces off this Thursday. I definitely remember how annoying those surgery hooks were when they would catch on my lips and inside of my cheeks.

I'm looking forward to your next update, and let me know if you have any other questions in the meantime.

I know how you feel exactly.. even about the plates under one side of your face.. I think thats just swelling though, its firm.. Everything you wrote in your post I exactly went through. except the infection, but one side of my face always hurts more and is more swollen. Anyways.. it's great knowing someone else is going through what I'm going through so I (we) know its normal.

My upper lip also did hurt if i tried to move it too much. And the swollen bubbles were very hard and it felt as though my face was swollen to it's max, stretching my skin to the max
