Yes, my date is the 23rd of January! Just a little over a month away. I am very scared but looking forward to being on the other side. I am lucky to have paid sick leave from work. It seems kind of perverse to look forward to an invasive surgery and hard recovery, but I am looking forward to the break from work if nothing else! I work at a library it'll be easy to load up on DVDs, books, and audiobooks. I am also planning to knit a sweater. I feel that winter is probably a good time to have this done, I live in a cold climate so everyone is always cooped up anyway. The downside is that I probably won't want to go out for a walk, but I'll make an effort to at least walk to the store once I'm ready.

My boyfriend of 4 years will be taking care of me. I'm wondering at what point we'll be able to sleep in the same bed, since I'll have to be propped up and I also feel like I'll be kind of gross. Is your fiance sleeping in bed with you? I'd like to know what my boyfriend should expect since he'll be sleeping on the couch otherwise!

Olive - I have found that sleeping on the sofa is easier for me to stay propped up and reduce the swelling. I tend to roll over onto my side or tummy in my sleep so I didn't want to risk doing that in the week after surgery. I'm Day 11 today post op and still on the sofa. My swelling is significantly reduced and I always notice the biggest difference in the morning. My fiance sleeps on the other sofa in our living room so he's nearby. Is that an option for your boyfriend? Some also find that sleeping in a recliner post-op can be quite comfortable. If necessary, I think you can definitely sleep in the same bed, but I would suggest putting a body pillow between the two of you so you don't accidentally bump into each other and knock your jaw or anything. Even slight touching of my face was tender in the first few days. I would also suggest placing a pillow underneath your knees if you have a hard time sleeping on your back. It's more comfortable and will help prevent you from rolling over. Finally, I really love the "V shaped" pillow for my head/neck. It's super comfortable and because it comes around both sides of my head it helps to keep me from rolling over as well.

Double jaw surgery on 12/17/11. BSSO mandibular advancement of 10 mm; two-piece le fort 1 with 3 mm impaction and maxilla brought forward 1 mm.
