hi i have had surgery on my top jaw. it has been about 3 weeks. at first i hated the way i looked but now i feel more confident with my face however the swelling hasnt gone down totally from my cheeks which im still a bit conscious about. is that normal? how long will it take for the swelling to completely go?and is it ok to go outside? its really cold where im from and im just scared about infections!

Congrats on a successful surgery, Azmina!

Totally normal to still be swollen after only 3 weeks. It took my swelling a full 6 months and more to completely disappear, but the majority of it was gone after 3 months.

It all depends on the severity of your surgery and how your body reacts.

I'm sure you will be fine with going outside, but it's always a good idea to ask your surgeon about your specific concerns in your area.

If you have any other questions, just let us know, and good luck with the rest of recovery!

    Hi Azmina,
Great that you are feeling more confident - that is wonderful! Ice packs are great for swelling reduction, Body Shop have a brilliant one which you can strap to where you need it, the ones supplied in the hospital tend to be more for the lower jaw! I also take a daily walk for 30 minutes which is great for lymphatic drainage - it does tire you , but worth it! good luck and enjoy your beautiful new face! x
