    Hi Brandon,
Again, I must agree with everyone else who has posted on this site thus far, this is an immense help- and although it doesn't make me look forward to the procedure, it is comforting to know what I can expect the first few weeks out.

My surgery is scheduled for Feb 10th, just 9 days from now. As far as I know, I am getting just the upper jaw done to correct an open bite (although the surgeon will decide in the next couple of days if the lower needs to be done as well) and will have all 4 of my wisdom teeth out at once...fun, right?! So I already expect massive swelling and some bruising, but am definitely concerned about the whole breathing thing...some of the people I have talked to could still breath through their mouth a little if they had to, but all of them experienced some serious nasal congestion...did anyone use a humidifier to help??

The other concensus was that the nose and/or throat hurt more than the actual face, being numb as it is for weeks, did you experience that??

Anyone try acupuncture for quicker nerve regeneration (feeling in the face)??

    Thanks!!

    Hi Alyx,

Congrats on getting a surgery date! That's a big thing for us jaw surgeristas, as it usually gets pushed back several times before actually happening.

The nasal congestion comes more from dried mucus and blood than anything else, so I'm not sure how much a humidifier would help with that, but I don't see how it could hurt, so give it a try.

I had a slight sore throat for the first few days, but not even enough to really bother me, and my whole face, including my nose, was numb for long enough that I never had any pain there.

I've wanted to try acupuncture for a long time just for general health, but I never even thought about it as an application for jaw surgery. I'd definitely look into it more, but it sounds promising, just be sure to mention it to your surgeon to make sure it won't interfere or cause any problems.

I hope that helps, keep us updated, and good luck with your surgery!
