I'm curious as to how much weight I will lose after surgery. I'm set to have double jaw surgery on Aug. 18th to fix my 12mm underbite (GROSS!). How much weight did YOU lose after your surgery?

Prior to surgery, I gained 20 lbs (putting me to 205 prior to surgery) because I figured I would lose about that amount. I am back down to 192 (13 lbs loss) at almost 3 weeks post-op.

i lost 7 pounds in my first week, and then another 5 over the next two weeks, you should try bulking up a little before the op, i wish i had done.

I lost 16lbs in the first two weeks and have put six back on now. Don't forget you NEED calories to recover so even though it's a great opportunity to diet, if you don't get enough food you'll extend your recovery period and feel awful. Pain meds on an empty stomach is not a good feeling. I felt like I was constantly eating for the first few weeks but actually I was eating such tiny amounts it was ipossible not to lose weight. Good luck with your surgery and let us know how you get on. Coming on this forum really helped me get through my first few weeks post op :-)

I lost eight pounds and gained three, so five in total. I'm 5'5" and I've stayed steady at 125lbs, so so far so good :)

I maintained my weight by eating 5 small meals a day. I didn't have the patience to sit an hour at the table trying to finish 3 meals, especially with the pitying looks my family kept on throwing at me -_- Make sure you ingest lots of calories! Surgery + Trying to Recover + Dieting = bad, bad, bad idea...

Thanks Guys, I'm not trying to lose weight. I'm 5ft 1 and 125lbs so I don't have too much to lose.

I ate my heart out a few days before my surgery, which was almost 6 weeks ago. I figured mind as well live it up! When I was weighed in before surgery, I gained 5 lbs. But within the first week post op, I supposedly lost almost 15 lbs. I stopped losing weight at week 2. Since then I gained back 3-4 lbs. Since my 3rd week post op, although I'm not allowed to chew I started to eat soft food.

Although the scale at the hospital read that I gained 5 lbs, I find that really hard to believe (supposedly I dropped from 112 lbs to 98 lbs). I consumed a lot of calories too because if I didn't, I would get terrible dizzy spells. Tons of milkshakes, protein shakes, and frappacinos :P

I did what most people do and pigged out for like a month before surgery... eat all the stuff that you won't be able to for a while! I weighed about 140 before surgery and got to about 120-125 two weeks post op. I put on about 10 pounds after being able to eat again.

It's definitely hard to eat after surgery, but you have to or you will just have a horrible time recovering.
