I'm gonna get the surgery one day and was just wonderin how much weight did you lose? Did you lose any actually? Was it like fat or muscle weight or both? My dad had it and told me it completely messed up his metabolism and after he gained weight like crazy.... Thanks!

It's usually just water weight, particularly for those who don't drink water as a daily habit anyway. Suddenly switching to a liquid diet can make you lose 10 or so lbs. If you're a heavier person, you have even more water weight that can fluctuate.

In terms of actual fat or muscle, probably not a huge difference to the average person. You'd have to be like an athlete to see any significant muscle atrophy / a very overweight person to see fat loss. It is minimal.

For metabolism, alot of different factors come into play there too. If you eat too little calories for too long, it will damage your metabolism (effectively like being an anorexic). Keep in mind your dad is also older so he was in a more delicate balance with his metabolism. As long as you keep up your calorie intake through liquid form, you shouldn't really be affected. Just my two cents :P

My dad was 22 when he did it. But it was a long time ago and I think it was different back then. He told me his mouth was wired shut for 6 weeks so he could only drink liquids which was a huge change from his usual junk food.

I've been wondering about weight loss aswell, and am really worried abut losing too much! I don't weigh a lot anyway and a big weight loss could be quite damaging. I've put on an extra ten pounds since being given my op date, but how much does one lose on average?

I lost like 5kg the first or second week. I'm now 3 months post-op and has gained back 1 :-) The average is 10% of your weight, sometimes less, sometimes more.. but you'll gain it back, so actually you don't have to put on extra pounds before surgery..

I (unlike many I think) didn't drink protein shakes and all that, I just figured that if I lost weight I'd gain it all back when I start to eat normally again.

I have been worrying about the weight loss, I lost a stone when I had my wisdom out and everyone kept commenting on my face, in a negative way lol. I have looked at buying body building powder but don't really want to spend 40 on some yucky milkshake I'm likely not to eat. how do you get a high calorie intake when on a liquid diet?

Bsso for overbite on 21st December. Lower advanced 8mm upper impacted by 3mm and moved forward 2mm.
