Hello, i am stuck between a rock and a hard place at the moment..
i recently just had an evaluation for what i need done to have my bite be
"normal" and i need top AND bottom jaw surgery..currently i have no insurance...but i will in about a month with blue cross. how do i go about with getting the surgery
without it being "cosmetic". i do have lower jaw discomfort at times, and a little trouble with speech. i have quite a list of whats wrong my bottom and top jaw from my ortho. its not to settling, cause the longer i wait my bite will get worse with the wear of my teeth etc throughout the future. so im REALLY looking to get this problem fixed and im very determined. how do i go about with getting blue cross to cover this surgery
with it being "needed" instead of cosmetic. Also once i start working again in the next month or so i could always apply for being on kaiser again like i was in the past.
if someone could get back to me, and i can hear ur side of the tracks of what you went through and how you went about it..i would appreciate it alot.
    any advice, tips..etc...is all accepted.
    thank you

For me, I had to wait a year after getting the insurance for them to cover this surgery.

Even then, my surgeon said sometimes they do consider the surgery cosmetic, but he was fully prepared to provide a more detailed analysis and appeal as to why mine was medically necessary.

If you have the documentation plus a surgeon and/or orthodontist that can show the medical problems it's causing, then getting the surgery covered shouldn't be a problem.

I was on Anthem, and your surgeon will be able to answer any specific insurance questions, relating to Kaiser, etc.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes...
