    Hi Everyone,
I'm so glad I found this blog. So, I went to a surgeon about my facial asymmetry and found out that my upper jaw is too small and my lower jaw is too big. I'm 33 years old and he told me that double jaw surgery is not a good choice at my age, but INSTEAD I could get a genioplasty and an implant to make my face my symmetrical. I thought it was cool he was so honest b/c the latter is MUCH cheaper than the former.

Then I went and got a second opinion from a surgeon who does not accept insurance (jaw surgery isn't covered anyway, right?). He tried to talk me into it saying that the first surgeon was being ridiculous (not his words) and that I could definitely benefit from it. I was wondering if he was trying to convince me because it's expensive and he'd make a lot of money doing it, BUT he did seem to know exactly what he was talking about.

So, I'm torn...is 33 too old? How expensive is it? If insurance doesn't cover it, how did you pay? Is it horrible? I hate the way my jaw looks but at the same time I'm so scared! Any answers or advice you could give me I'd appreciate. Thank you so much!

First, lots of people have had the surgery that are in their 30's and even older than that. It takes longer to heal though.

Also - jaw surgery can be covered by insurance. It depends on your specific insurance company of course. They are all different. Some are easier to work with than others.

It comes down to you deciding what you want.

Do you have pictures that you can post?

Depends what part of the country/world you live in on how expensive it is. I've heard such different prices. The most I've heard was in the 80's. Meaning a few people have said $80,000 - of course the INSURANCE paid most of it.

There is a lot of information here on the forums that people have posted - if you haven't already read up on somethings.. you have found a good place to start =)

that's BS --tons of people have jaw surgery in their 30s and even 40s --okay, so it takes a few weeks longer to recover --big deal.

Whats BS is that im 34 lol the longer period of recovery just means more time off work! lol

So I'm closer in age to you guys than the teens on this forum --does anyone have any facts about how much more likely nerve damage is as you get older? If you read the thread of the people in their late 40s/50s they all sound like they're in pretty bad shape and one woman outright says she totally regrets it. Does the quality of the surgeon help at all? I could deal with like a little spot on my chin being numb, but NO WAY could i deal with my entire lower lip and parts of my palette etc. being permanently numb with no sensation. Is there actually a risk of losing your sense of taste or feeling in your gums, tongue etc??
